Welcome back and peace to all. I realize these are not short fluffy feel good type of messages and sometimes these can be pretty heavy and take more than a 5 min read at work. With that to me God's sovereignty, righteousness, justice, grace, and mercy are great news and I love to read, hear and proclaim them. To me that is the feel good type of message that I desire. For you I pray that if at nothing else in the few moments with have available during the day that this can provide at least 4 verses to read by itself without my questions and words. For in the scripture there is true inspiration and hope.
Jhn 5:29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
Jhn 5:30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.
Jhn 5:31 If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.
Jhn 5:32 There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true.
- What do you feel is meant by ‘of mine own self do nothing’?
- What witness is referred to in vs 32?
- Compare and contrast to John 8:14.
These verses should never be read and interpreted as a limitation of the power of Jesus. The Son will not act independently of the Father. This does not restrict but rather declare His perfection and divine nature. And this will stated in these verses are profoundly solemn. He is the judge and judgment must fall on those who are not His children. Christ will deal here not in grace, but inflexible righteousness. He will administer justice, not mercy. His wrath and justice is true and fair and all that are cast into eternal damnation are rightfully there not to be reformed put to eternally bear the punishment of their transgressions. (John 6:37-38)
