Well I am going to keep repeating these verses until I get it right (we may be here awhile). I opted for the simple straightforward explanation this time. I pray you too see truth, beauty, hope, and glory in election and God’s sovereign grace. May by His grace, it pleases Him to help us reserve ourselves to His will and we find His doctrines as soft pillows to rest our heads on.
Extra Credit: Enternal, Absolute predestination by my one of my favorites C.H. Spurgeon, another good read is Donald Fortner’s article on Election.
Jhn 9:1 And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.
Jhn 9:2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
Jhn 9:3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
Jhn 9:4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
Jhn 9:5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
Jhn 9:6 When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,
Jhn 9:7 And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
- How does this demonstrate election?
I have heard say that to prove election that people that hold to the doctrines of grace always go to the same few verses. I contend that the gospel may be found buried in every scripture. The pages are full of this glorious good news. These verses, like so many others, shows Christ sovereign will and election exemplified.
- We had at the end of last chapter the blind that Jesus passed among and they did not see Him, and now we have the blind man that He saw and He healed. We have God seeing us in our condition before we could ever see Him.
- This man knew he was blind and he never questions that his eyes have been opened. A sinner knows he is a sinner and never questions that it was someone else that saved him.
- Was there any difference in the one He saved and the multitude He left. Is there any thing that makes the redeemed any more worthy than the others left in their sins.
- Christ choose to show His mercy to this man. God choose to show His mercy to His elect.
- Why did He hide Himself from many and reveal Himself to one. Why does He pass by so many today and save only a remnant.
- So why did He save this man, so the glory of God may be manifest. Why does God save anybody, so the glory of God may be manifest.
