"Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me." (John 5:39)

Are you blind?

As I have been writing less over the last month we have been blessed with commentaries by A. W. Pink, Cesar Malan, J. C. Ryle, and Henry Mahan. Sorry to disappoint everyone but today’s is my personal ramblings again. I pray He strips away my ignorance and presses in our hearts that which is truth. That He may bring us to place we need to be that He may be glorified.

Was recently accused of “only reading stuff from dead guys”. To that for the next few weeks I shall highlight “alive guys” with articles of other “alive” people with still relevant devotions. Today’s is by Tim James, a pastor of Sequoyah Baptist Church in Cherokee NC. This, I feel, relevant article “Glory of His Grace” is a good devotion that fits today’s lesson.

Jhn 9:40 And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?
Jhn 9:41 Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.

Was it self-righteousness or sincere concern that prompted the question by these Pharisees?

Isn’t it true those that are reveled their condition, understand their need. If someone, anyone, (you) know you are blind, helpless, without hope; if you truly know of your depravity you would have no other choice or desire but to look to Christ. A blind man will trust completely on others eyes for what they see. A drowning man will cling helpless to his rescuer. A dying man will beg for any last measure to sustain his life. If you know yourself blind, drowning, and dead you will trust fully and only on Christ. But if you think you have sight you will trust your eyes. If you think you can save yourself you will not reach for your redeemer. If you think you are not dying you will not see the need to reverse your condition. If you do not think yourself blind, helpless, and dead; if you think you have a choice you will trust that choice. If you don’t believe salvation and redemption is by grace and grace alone, if you don’t trust on Him and Him alone you do not see yourself for what you are. For I am without doubt if you are brought to a point where your flesh is truly revealed to you, you would abandon your sight, your hope, your will and rest on Him and see joy, peace, and hope in His Sovereign Electing Grace. May God humble us to see His glory.

Pro 15:33 The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.
