"Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me." (John 5:39)

How were thine eyes opened?

So busy lately and sadly neglecting my first duty of coming to Him in private studies that I truly look forward to these with you. This is a wonderful 15 minutes of silent prayer and reading to me when there seems to be little free time. I pray by His grace that we focus solely on who and not how. That He may strip away our ignorance and press in our hearts that which is truth

Extra credit reading: Old faithful, it seems ever week I always end up finding at least one from Charles Spurgeon that fits our text. Today’s ”Is conversion necessary?”

Jhn 9:26 Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes?
Jhn 9:27 He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples?
Jhn 9:28 Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses' disciples.
Jhn 9:29 We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is.

Discussion forum : This book has been said to focus on the deity of God. How is it represented in these verses?

We previously dealt with a beggar who knew nothing more than “I once was blind but now I see.” We have a man putting no faith in the acts of washing in the river but instead praised the giver. A man who knew his condition and can now without argument see. How unfortunate it is that the men he spoke too were both blind and deaf and did not know it. He answered and spoke but they did not hear. They had proof right in front of them but they could not see. They heard only words and rejected it because it did not fit into what their views were. They seen the man but rejected the giver because it did not fit what they thought they knew. Oh, the unbelief of man not knowing the state in which they live. Consumed by moments or acts in time. Looking for the exact second of conversion as defined by revelation or ordinances and missing the miracle they lay before them that this blind man can see at all. Oh, the unbelief of man. Instead of praising the result, recognizing the grace necessary, and glorifying the giver we criticize or scrutinize the means. “How were you brought to Christ, when did it occur, where were you at the time, did you such and such, or what is your testimony?” Isn’t it truly the only important factor is that the Lord opened the eyes of a blind man. If you come forward in a church, were on your knees, back, or standing in a shower is of little to no value. Faith should not be occupied with places and means but that you know you were once blind and by a sovereign act of grace by the giver you have sight. It is faith that does not dwell on how, when, where, or why but cries out “Amazing grace how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost but now I am found, was blind but now I see.”

I Cr 2:2 “For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.”
