Last post we disccused who the thieves and robbers may be in the Parable for thieves and robbers. Today with the assistance of Henry Mahan, we will look at together Porter and His effectual call. May God bless this reading and teach us from His word.
Extra credit: today’s is from Tim James a pastor at Sequoyah Baptist Church Cherokee, NC. Best of my knowledge still alive and still preaching the gospel. Here is a devotion on Acted or acted upon
Jhn 10:1 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.
Jhn 10:2 But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
Jhn 10:3 To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
Jhn 10:4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.
- Who is the porter, what is the door?
To him the porter openeth. This refers to God, the Father, whose law Christ honored, whose righteousness Christ fulfilled, whose justice Christ satisfied! The sheep hear the voice of Christ, which is no other than the gospel of grace, love and mercy (Eph 1:13-14; I Thes 1:4-5). The sheep of Christ are made to hear His voice by effectual work of the Spirit in their hearts. They are His own sheep (John 6:37-45), and He calls them by name (II Tim 2:19). He leads them out of Judaism, works, false religion, captivity, out from under the law as a schoolmaster, out from under the course of the law, or out of any captivity. “If the Son shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” By Henry Mahan
