Jhn 2:9-11 (9) When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, (10) And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now. (11) This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee , and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him..
Why was they so surprised the best wine was kept back?
It was costmary at the weddings to server the best of their wines first. They had many flasks of wines but usually only a select few were of finer quality. These at events like this, to impress their guest, would be served first. Then when taste buds dulled and senses weakened other wine was brought out with little notice of the guest. As we see with most things, the ways of the Lord are most often contradictory or even opposite of this world. Satan and this world puts its best foot forward in tempting the soul and then keeps the worst for last. We first see only the pleasure and acceptance of sin but continuing the wages of sin are revealed. But with God we have what is contrary to the flesh. His children first see sin and many times face seasons wondering the wilderness before He brings them to the fields of milk and honey and their promised inheritance. Ah may the beginnings of Christ miracles in your life be the revelation that He has provided the best wine for you still to taste.
