"Which things also we speak not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth, comparing spiritual things with spiritual things" (I Cor 2:13). By far the best answers to any question or the explanation of any verse is other scriptures. I pray the reader of this never believes what I say because I stated it but search for yourselves and believe because the scriptures say it is so.
Jhn 4:43 Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee.
Jhn 4:44 For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.
Jhn 4:45 Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.
Jhn 4:46 So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.
- Why was Jesus not honored in Galilee?
- Why did He go where He knew He was not respected?
- Compare this encounter with the Galilaeans to the crowd that sought him in Samaria?
- (My favorite question, because I have absolutely no answer) Why does John present these events (and others) out of sequence to the other gospels?
In reading these verses two questions quickly came to mind. Like so many times when reading, unfortunately the answers to those questions take much longer. First what was meant by Him not being honored in Galilee and second why would He even go then. Not to contradict my beliefs and before being rejected by any legalist, I know and do believe Christ was drawn to Galilee to do the will of His Father. That as much as He must go through Samaria, He now must go through Cana. In the flesh though I still find myself asking these questions. Like so many other questions, meanings, and enlightenments they can be found in other scriptures. Never confine yourself to just these few verses, I pray you may be stirred to search the scriptures for yourself comparing spiritual things with spiritual things.
- Why, or in reference to what, was the comment a prophet has no honor in his own country (Luke 4:14-30). A king born of Nazareth found Himself rejected in the synagogue. They were totally blind to His divine glory.
- Why would Jesus knowing the rejection He would face go to Galilee (Matt 4:12-18; Isa 42:6-7). He had heard that John was cast into prison and He departed. More importantly He must go to Galilee not only to fulfill the will of His Father but also to fulfill the prophecy. For that they and we would know that He is God and the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
