Once again I would like to welcome someone new to our Scripture discussions. I have included a brief Bio at the bottom of the text. I hope everyone had a joyful Easter. I pray the Spirit touches your hearts as He has touched mine and that He uses these words to bless and glorify His name.
Jhn 4:47 When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.
Jhn 4:48 Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.
Jhn 4:49 The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.
Jhn 4:50 Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.
- What can we learn from this man’s silence in verse 50?
- What signs and wonders is the Lord referring to?
- Compare and contrast with Mat 8:5-13?
As a father of two children these words hit home to me, I pray that they touch you first and foremost as a wonderful example of a fathers commitment to his son in a comparison to our fathers commitment to us to go to the cross and die for our sins and second our responsibility now for our children bringing them, through His Spirit, into His fold.
"I trust these words will come home to the hearts of Christian parents who need this. In the action of this father who came to Christ on behalf of his child there is an example which you do well to emulate. If you are not deeply concerned about the soul’s welfare of your children, who is likely to be? It is your responsibility and duty to teach them the word of God. It is your concerns to bring them in prayer to God. Do not turn over to a Sunday school teacher what is incumbent upon you to do. Teach them and press upon them the scriptures at the earliest of age. Be not discouraged if you are unable to detect any response because it is the Spirit who will ultimately teacheth. Stay steadfast in your zeal and pray that it may please God to speak only the word to save your son. Continue to cast thy bread upon the waters and thou shalt find again after many days." A.W.
