Grace and peace to you. I really enjoyed our last word of the day and I hope everyone is finding as much out of the story of this sinner (the women) coming to Grace than I am. We faithfully plow ahead and if any have any comments to add please share them to the group or directly back to me if you desire and feel moved to do so. I pray God uses these words and touches our souls and blinds us to our own ignorance.
Jhn 4:27 And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?
Jhn 4:28 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,
Jhn 4:29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?
Jhn 4:30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.
- What does the silence in response to Christ’s revelation say to us?
- What can we draw specially from vs. 28?
- What does these verses teach us about our responsibilities as Christians?
The women came to the well with only one thing on her mind; to fetch water, to labor in the heat of the sun to quench a thirst that would only return the next day. Taking a look back once more we have first the omniscience of the Savior taking this path through Samaria and being at this well at this moment. We see Him as the first cause, addressing the women and preaching to her the gifts of God. We see the sinner striped of her self-righteousness and left with no place to hide. Next we have the Savior’s revelation to a depraved sinner and finally we see the only possible effect from such a revelation. A sinner filled now with the water of the Spirit and running to do His calling and glorifying His name. How can there be any other response. To reflect on the power and holiness of this effectious calling how can anyone possible think that someone could reject a calling directly made from the Holy Spirit. To say that Christ calls His sheep by name and someone hears His voice and ignores it would diminish the power, well, and glory of God and disregard what the scriptures say. It is of interest also that the women left her old nature and leaves behind the water pot. For she would never again need or desire to labor for the thirst, that without Christ’s revelation, she never knew she had.
