Grace and peace, I pray that God touches these words and our hearts and we don't read out of habit but search for His message within.
Jhn 6:1 After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias.
Jhn 6:2 And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased.
Jhn 6:3 And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples.
Jhn 6:4 And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh.
- Who or what do you follow?
- Why does Jesus John make it a point to say this was the time of the feast of the Jews?
How this is generally the case. A great multitude following him, but none know or could even discern who He truly was. It was curiosity or the love of excitement, which commonly gathered crowds. And how unfortunately what we read here we see repeated weekly. Thousands follow out of habit or thirst to be part of the crowd without knowing what or whom they come to worship. People continue to follow clever evangelist with poetic messages, swarm to congregations with fancy music and pageantry, and flock to the churches that cater to modern desires, more concerned with fun and the experience than Christ the redeemer of Sinner souls. The great multitude follows the ways of the world hidden in the acceptance of it by the "church". The great multitude follows crying in Jesus name but acting because they see the crowd move and do likewise. This should stand as a warning to followers of modern religion. For in verse 1 Jesus leaves the unbelieving Jews and now weary of the multitudes unbelief He withdrew to the mountain. Solemnly But true we have a great multitude following but only a select few He chooses and takes up to the mountain with Him to fellowship with. (Mat 7:21-23)
