Murmuring

Grace and peace, I pray that our message may be bold and without wavering. That we speak of Christ and Him crucified and the Spirit moves those to hear His Word.

Jhn 6:60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?
Jhn 6:61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?
Jhn 6:62 What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?
Jhn 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
Jhn 6:64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.
Jhn 6:65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.

- What were these disciples offended at?
- What is the force and meaning of quickening?

The message Christ spoke was not hard or difficult to understand or hear but instead was bold and offended what they thought they knew or believed. It was not that Christ was inaudible but it was irreconcilable with their own views. To except what Christ said would be to denounce what they were holding on to. Christ message spoke to their very soul. His message was clear. He is the divine incarnation; He is the blood of life sent by His father to do His will (vs 35,40). He spoke of His death and cleansing blood that gives life (vs 53). And now He speaks of His ascension and necessity of His resurrection (vs 62). But these Jews murmured this living bread from heaven (vs 41). Rejected His gift of the flesh (vs 52). And murmured now among themselves that His message is the blood and this offends (vs 60). Finally in the next verse we will see their true resolve as they leave Jesus and go back to their ways to walk with Him no more (vs 66). Dear reader, do the things you read offend you or do you embrace them. Do you read His word and subtly murmur that can’t be right or add to His words or do you praise Him and are thankful that it is His and complete.
