"Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me." (John 5:39)

Eat, Eating, Eateth

We continue through John and are nearing the end of Chapter 6. Many of these still (most likely never will) get any easier to write. I pray God continues to feed us and He gives us understanding and strips away our ignorance.

Jhn 6:52 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us His flesh to eat?
Jhn 6:53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
Jhn 6:54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
Jhn 6:55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
Jhn 6:56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
Jhn 6:57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.
Jhn 6:58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.
Jhn 6:59 These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.

- What does it mean to raise up at the last day?
- What does it mean to dwell with Him?

Every now and then there are little things in the scripture that God speaks volumes with. Look closely, there is a staunch contrast that may be made between verse 53 and 54. The verb ‘eat’ in verse 53 in the Greek is in the aorist tense implying a single act. An act done only once, were in the next verse the verb ‘eat’ or ‘eateth’ is in the perfect tense denoting a continuous never-ending act. How wonderful and precise His word can be. For in the first it appears as an invitation to the lost. When the second eat adds comfort to the redeemed. A security that we now feed on Him constantly and never-ending. It is important to note also that we see here the "hath". Here we have the evidence that those who are eating already have possession.

We know that this is the inspired word of God and with that I will not believe that the Spirit arbitrarily throw in verb tenses and words. There is glory in the words and what they say. I pray we continue to feast on His words and approach Him humbly and continue to dwell and abide with Him (John 6:56).
