The Light of the World

Just like we pray daily to fellowship with our Father through His Son, we must strive to study daily to learn, comfort, lead, correct, humble, exhort, give peace, affirm doctrine, and grow in grace. His Word is the Light of the World, do not seek darkness. Do not forsake your duty and honor to come to His Word and meditate on the majesty of the perfection He has made available to us.

Jhn 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

- What is meant by the World?
- What kind of light does the world enjoy?

This is the second “I Am” we find in the gospel. Here we demonstrate Christ as the Light unto the world that shineth in the darkness. Stop and mediate as I often have at the power and deity in these words “I Am”. How this demonstrates the nature and purity of God. Christ Himself was the Light and only He could shine as a beacon. Only He can guide, only He can show man’s impurities and illuminate God’s holiness, and only He can cause a man to see. Only He is the Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world (Jhn 1:9). But we know that the world received Him not (Jhn 1:11). The world desired darkness and rejected the light. We have seen and read time and time again mans depravity but we see now that the world is not all but is limited to the condition of a select. He that followeth me. Just like we discover in Jhn 7:37 when the condition was to truly thirst, here the condition is to unconditional follow. So is man’s followeth dependant on His mercy or does this contradict what the gospel we preach, God forbid. Read on dear reader for this does not say that he may enjoy the Light of life but SHALL have. What wonderful words. Shall, a definite act that we can’t screw up. Shall, a finished work that is complete before we try to lift a finger. Shall, absolute certainty that the spiritual Light shines from the beginning on His child. He is the divine Light that shines to believers alone. A clear illuminating of the finished work of Christ. A beacon to call to His sheep. A perfect Light that we will by His grace use to follow Christ.
