"Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me." (John 5:39)

God glorified by His justice

Once again I have enjoyed diving into scriptures and our exhortations on the book of John. I look forward to continuing this and invite you all to add anything. I pray God uses these thoughts and strips away any foolishness and press in our hearts that which is true.

Jhn 2:12 After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days.
Jhn 2:13 And the Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem,
Jhn 2:14 And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:
Jhn 2:15 And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;
Jhn 2:16 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise.
Jhn 2:17 And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.

- Why is the written about here opposed to where it is placed in the other gospels?
- Compare the similarities and differences with these verses and Mat 21:12-13.
- How does this demonstrate the deity and authority of Christ.
- Is there a difference on how He treated those who sold doves, and if so why?

This incident shows us a side of Christ, which is almost universally ignored today. God is merciful and just. God is gracious and righteous. God is forgiving but punishes all sins. God is love but hates iniquity. He is the God of salvation and He is the God of wrath (Rev 16:1). We seen in the previous verses a God glorified by His mercy. We see here a God glorified by His justice. God is absolutely holy and anything less must be cleansed by the wrath of God. "And by no means will he clear the guilty" (Exd 34:7). This means if God sees just one blemish or sin on us we must bare the wrath of God and the punishment for sin is death. But for the true sinner there is hope, that they are justified (found guilt free) by His blood and have been saved from the wrath through Him (Rom 5:8-9).
