Grace to Joy

May God bless ours thoughts and words and forgive us for our foolishness. I love these current verses and hope you get as much out of it than I did.

Jhn 2:6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.
Jhn 2:7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.
Jhn 2:8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.
Jhn 2:9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
Jhn 2:10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.
Jhn 2:11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

Who performed the miracle and by what means did He use?
What symbolism is present here?
What is the central lesson to be learned from the first public miracle of Christ?

I see this as a wonderful symbolism of the gospel. We left at the end of the last verses the people deprived and at the end of their wine (joy). What we have now is six empty waterpots. Six the number of man, Stone the depravity and harden heart, and empty without wine, joy, or comfort. Much like a sinners state before Gods effectual calling. Jesus commands that they fill the waterpots with water. Water the symbol of the written word (Eph 5:26) and filled not part way but up to the brim. His word is sufficient to fill the pots, there is nothing that can or needs to be added. The water is made wine. Jesus uses man to poor the water put it was the power of Christ and Christ alone that made it wine. Once empty deprived pots are now full to the brim with joy. And finally and most importantly it manifested forth His glory. It was good wine, far better than the best the world can give. He is the maker and to Him be the Glory.
