I pray we continue in His word to a manifestation of His work that He first did in us. I pray that He blesses the readings of this word and strips away any ignorance and shines the His light that we may know His truth and be made free of the burdens of this flesh.
Jhn 8:28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
Jhn 8:29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.
Jhn 8:30 As he spake these words, many believed on him.
Jhn 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
Jhn 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
- What does it mean to continue in His word?
- Were those that believed Christians or temporary believers?
“If you continue”. This is not a condition of discipleship but rather a manifestation of it. This is the evidence or proof that they have been redeemed. “He that endureth to the end shall be saved” (Mat 10:22). This is the distinction between the stony ground harvesting and the ground plowed by the Spirit. “In His word”. Forget your works and deeds but rest in Him. Find comfort not from trying to be good but rather from the Spirit or Word. If you look at anything you have or will do you are looking in the wrong direction. Look to Him and the comforter is has provided. “This is proof that you are actually my disciple”. Indeed Gk (oatos) meaning really or actually. The one that is truly oatos (indeed) saved will not fall away. He will continue, and he is saved. “Are you without question will know the truth”. Shall Gk (mello) with all certainty. You will not walk in darkness but to those actual disciples His light must shine and guide them. “And you will without question be free”. Free from sin, free from the law, and free from the burden of the flesh. And when you preserver to the end and look back you shall see your walk was not towards salvation but in recognition of Christ walk in the flesh and His finished work.
