We continue our journey through the Gospel of John. I pray as we seek that God makes our motives pure. May He strip away the foolishness and press in each of our hearts that which is truth.
Jhn 8:19 Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.
Jhn 8:20 These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.
Jhn 8:21 Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.
- What does this show on atonement?
- Why is there importance made on that He was in the treasury?
Where Jesus was soon to go the Pharisees could not follow for they would not die with Christ but in their flesh. How solemn this is for many today as well. How sorrowful that we may see a man with a zeal for Christ and appear to seek His favor and have no knowledge of the Savior. Emotion, sickness, or temporal need many times draw a man near. This man will attend church regularly, fervently pray, read their bible, profess and believe in a god, and try to transform their character into a “Christian”. But too often their reformation is external and not internal. Too often they have changed their appearance but have not been transformed. Too many times the seed is cast on stony ground, growing quickly only to wilt in the light soon after. It is unfortunate that as they seek a god for temporal relief, with the outward appearance of a ‘Christ Centered Life’, but finally they shall die in their sins. They thought they sought Christ but their motive was relief of fleshy pain. Dear reader do want to be saved? I ask you from what? The fear of hell or the condemnation of your own flesh. I pray that our motives are by the grace of God focused entirely on Him. And that we may come submissively with the convictions of our sins for an eternal relief.
